Sheer Window Panels

Decorating your home in your own special way is something that every woman wants to do. It doesn’t matter if you can afford the most expensive decorator or if you do-it-yourself.

You want it to be to your taste. One way you can personalize your home or apartment is by using sheer window panels in your decorating.

Right now I am sure you are thinking 'you mean those ugly white things my grandmother always had hanging on the windows?' Well, sort of but not exactly. These days sheer window panels come in all colors and even have designs; no more dingy white panels just stuck between curtains.

Teenaged girls love to use these sheer window panels to express their individualism. One girl I know has used them in a pattern of rainbow colors around her bed. The panels are fastened to a track that has been attached in a circle on the ceiling above the bed. She can then slide them aside to get into and out of the bed. It gives her room a harem effect and makes up for the fact that she never got the canopied bed she once asked Santa Clause to bring her.

A young woman with her first apartment in the excitement of New York City has covered each of her floor to ceiling windows with draperies that keep out the light but in between she has hung sheer window panels of a contrasting color. When she opens the darkening shades, the panels continue to give her a feeling of privacy.

A bridal consultant has used sheer window panels in her show room. She has allowed them to hand from tension rods inside her show windows and fall in a romantic drape to the window’s floor. Where the panels puddle on the ground she has bunched the sheer up into a pouf and used the area as a display area for the shoes, gloves, jewelry and veils that surround the dresses she has displayed.

I have seen sheer window panels used as draping across full length mirrors in bathrooms. They can be tacked or stapled to the ceiling to create clouds and a sky for a special event. They can even be used over a solid colored drape to create a contrasting treatment.

Sheer window panels have recently become popular again. They have always given a room a classic feel and sometimes have been used to add a sense of drama (such as at a door frame to simulate curtains on a stage). They can even be draped from crown molding near the ceiling to give the room a sense of movement. One of the most popular things about sheer window panels is their price. You can find sheer window panels in discount stores for as little as six dollars a panel but the usual price range is fifteen dollars a panel and upwards.

My favorite use of sheer window panels is not a new one. This idea comes from the earliest days of the deep South. On screened porches in the South one often finds colorful sheer window panels hanging from each section of the screened area. They float with the wind or are tied back to accent the extra sitting and sleeping area that is associated with hot and breezy summer nights.

Next time someone mentions using sheer window panels don’t dismiss the idea until you try it.
